Last night’s final Presidential debate brought one striking reality to my attention. Both candidates believe that Iran can be seen and dealt with Western mentality. Western mentality is driven by logic, power, and money. Iran’s leadership is not driven by power, greed, or economic gain; they are Continue reading

The Great Bear Rising Again
I recently read an article by the AP ridiculing Mitt Romney’s foreign policy plans, specifically his calling Russia our “greatest geo-political foe”. Many Americans believe the Soviet Union to be dead; and Communism and the threat of global war between America and her allies against Russia and her allies to be a threat of days gone by. However, there is a new order rearing its head in Russia. Vladimir Putin is dedicated to seeing the glory, strength, and influence of the USSR restored. Continue reading
Why Foreign Policy Matters
Mitt Romney gave a dramatic and dynamic speech today at the Virginia Military Institute detailing his plans for foreign policy if elected President of the United States. Undoubtedly, many American’s focus this election will be the economy and rightly so. With the cost of gasoline near $4 a gallon, food prices rising, and millions of Americans out of work or being forced to take lower paying jobs, the economy is the only concern of many people. These are, without a doubt, very difficult economic times and we must be concerned about the future President and his economic policies. However, the President has limited power over the economy. Yes, he does act as the chief legislator and sets forth ideas, but he can not write legislation; that is the job of Congress. Where the President does have great power though is in foreign policy. He is the commander-in-chief of all armed forces, as well as the head of state. He sets foreign policy through his appointment of ambassadors and through the signing of treaties. (Both of which must be approved by the Senate, an important part of the separation of powers) Why is foreign policy so important this election? For three key reasons. #1 The United States Navy is at its smallest size since 1916. Defense cuts are set to take place in the next few years that will hinder our status as the most technologically advanced military in the world. We can not afford to this as both Russia and China are increasing their respective military spending and capabilities. China has now engineered an air craft carrier and is close to war with three of America’s key Asian allies-The Phillipines, Japan, and Taiwan. #2 Iran is on the threat of obtaining a nuclear weapon. This is their goal! Sanctions will not stop them! Sanctions in Iran only hurt the common person and have little effect on the regime of Ayatollah Khameini. Iran’s leadership believes that Imam Al-Mahdi, the twelfth Imam, the Savior of Shia Islam, will return very soon, but he will only come if the world is in a time of chaos. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Ayatollah Khameini, the IRGC, the Majlis, and the clerics of Shia Islam all believe that they must create stage of chaos for the world to be in so that Imam Al-Mahdi will return and set up a true Islamic Caliphate. #3 The most important issue to face the next President will be the issue of war against Israel. It is not a question of “if”, but “when”. War is coming to the Middle East, and I do not believe that anything now can be done to prevent it, save Divine Intervention. President Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood will in no way honor the peace treaty with Israel that President Mubarak honored. In fact, The Muslim Brotherhood’s manifesto calls for the destruction of Israel, and you would be a fool not to believe that they are determined to see this goal accomplished. True, the Middle East is still very much divided against itself, the Shia-Sunni is still a strong divider of Muslim countries and many Muslim countries continue to be enemies with one another, but the one thing that has always united all Muslim countries is their hatred of Israel. Very soon we will see an alliance of Muslim countries with one purpose- the destruction of Israel. The question for us is do we vote for a President who’s policies have only led to more chaos and instability in the Middle East. A President who would rather go on The View and Letterman than meet our biggest Ally in the Middle East. Or will we turn to a man who has promised to support Israel, to stop Iran from getting a nuclear weapon, and to promote freedom and liberty to all people of the world who long for it?
